Dr. Hodes
Dr. Jonathan Hodes grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana where he graduated from medical school at Indiana University in 1980. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine in 1982 and moved to the National Institute on Aging to research aging and the brain. The brain so fascinated him that Dr. Hodes chose to undertake a second residency, this time in Neurosurgery, under the chairmanship of Dr. Charles Wilson, one of the premier neurosurgeons in the brain tumor field.

After concluding his neurosurgical residency at the University of California San Francisco in 1988, Dr. Hodes completed a neurovascular fellowship at the University of Western Ontario in Canada, under the direction of Dr. Charles Drake, internationally recognized for his work treating brain aneurysms.
Dr. Hodes married his wife, Janet, in San Francisco in 1989, and five days later they moved to Paris where he completed a two-year fellowship in neurointerventional radiology... in addition to enjoying a two-year honeymoon!

Returning to the U.S. in 1991, Dr. Hodes initially served as Assistant Professor in Neurosurgery at Wayne State University in Michigan, then at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, before moving to Louisville, Kentucky in 1996. In 1997 he established the solo practice of Hodes Neurosurgery.
Dr. Hodes has particular interests in neurovascular disease including brain aneurysms, and minimally invasive surgical approaches to both the brain and the spine. (Learn more about these in the education section of our website.)
He currently serves on the Michael Quinlan Brain Tumor Foundation board, and the Greater Louisville Medical Society editorial board.
Dr. & Mrs. Hodes have two children, Isaac and Tahlia, as well as three dogs and a Senegal parrot. His outside interests include travel, gardening, reading, bicycling, and tending his orchids.
